THE NEW REALITY OF PROSECCO

On August 1st 2009 the Prosecco world changed. The word Prosecco no longer describes a variety but a doc (Certification of Controlled Origin) wine subject to stringent quality and production standards. The new Prosecco doc identifies a production area made up of nine provinces and two regions, the Veneto and Fruili Venezia Giulia. And what of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the historic production area with its proud tradition of doc certification dating back to 1969, it becomes DOCG (Certification of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin) which is the highest level of quality that can be assigned to an Italian wine.

Indeed there are only 44 DOCG wines compared to 318 doc. The name of the wine produced in these hills will be Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG and will offer even greater guarantees to the consumer. The wine with the new Certification will be available from April 1st 2010 and until then the wine will continue to be called Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene.
